The Mariemont Warriors will square off against the Lockland Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mariemont has given up an average of 12.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Mariemont couldn't beat Reading on Wednesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Warriors came up short against the Blue Devils, falling 14-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Blue Devils: they've now lost nine in a row.
Mariemont saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Connors, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Chloe Seymour also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Lockland waltzed into their matchup on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the WARRIORS with a sharp 20-6 victory. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Liselle Bradford, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Greggs, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Lockland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Lockland's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.7 runs over those games. As for Mariemont, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mariemont has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .452. However, it's not like Lockland struggles in that department as they've averaged .497. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mariemont skirted past Lockland 15-13 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
