The Chippewa Valley Big Reds will challenge the Romeo Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Chippewa Valley managed to slip by Anchor Bay the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Big Reds came up short against the Tars on Friday, falling 10-4. The Big Reds' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Cameron Metcalfe made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Rylee Booth was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Ten must be Romeo's lucky number: they beat Utica with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Bulldogs beat the Chieftains by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-2. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Katie Murphy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bailey Anton and Jess McLeod did most of the damage at the plate: Anton went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while McLeod went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most RBI Anton has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Yaklin, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Romeo is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Chippewa Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Chippewa Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Romeo struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Chippewa Valley might still be hurting after the 9-2 loss they got from Romeo in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Big Reds have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
