Baseball Recap: Valley Takes Down Alameda in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Valley rose to the challenge on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Alameda Pirates 8-6.

The team relied heavily on Alfonso Medina, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-2 (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Andrew Renken was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory got Valley back to even at 12-12. As for Alameda, their loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 19-4.

Valley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-4 win against Colorado Academy on the 17th. Alameda does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
