Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Olean

Olean came tearing into Tuesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Allegany-Limestone Gators by a score of 10-6. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-6 back in April.

Emma Edwards made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Riley Sudbrook was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Allison Anastasia, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Olean was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Olean's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Allegany-Limestone, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Olean will venture away from home to take on Fredonia at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hillbillies will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Huskies surely won't give up without a fight. As for Allegany-Limestone, they will square off against Salamanca at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
