East Noble extended their winning streak to five on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 7-2 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the DeKalb Barons. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted since May 21, 2024.
Abby Alwine spent all 13 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on 11 hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Helmkamp, who got on base in four of her seven plate appearances with one triple and one run. Bri Bortner was another key player, going 2-for-6 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
East Noble kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive matches.
As for DeKalb, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6. They have struggled against East Noble recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.
On DeKalb's side, they also let their pitcher toss all 13 innings and she was also dialed-in: Summer Haverstock gave up just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Serena Wineland made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-6 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Paige Storck, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Noble will square off against Fort Wayne Northrop at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for DeKalb, they will take on Homestead at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Barons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
