Delta is 1-8 against Mt. Vernon since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Delta Eagles on the road again and play against the Mt. Vernon Marauders at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th. Hopefully Delta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
Even though Delta has not done well against Monroe Central recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. Delta walked away with a 54-46 win over Monroe Central.
Delta's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jillian Barr, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Paizley Cool, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Mt. Vernon posted their biggest win yet this season on Tuesday. They blew past New Castle 54-19 at home. Given Mt. Vernon's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while New Castle is ranked 324th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Delta now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Mt. Vernon, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-13.
Delta was taken down by Mt. Vernon 68-34 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Delta avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
