Softball Recap: Canton Wins Going Away Against Athens

Canton never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on the Athens Hornets with a sharp 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 12 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Rylee Busby was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles and four RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Canton got a massive performance out of Chloe Howe, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Kara Pride was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

The victory made it two in a row for Canton and bumps their season record up to 15-6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Athens, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Canton will square off against rival Mabank at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Athens is set to take on their familiar foe Lindale at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
