Basketball Recap: Moriarty Skates Past Jemez Valley with Ease

Moriarty's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 73-26 win over the Jemez Valley Warrior. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-18.

Ray Schmutz had a dynamite game for Moriarty, going 7 for 9 on his way to 15 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Schmutz a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Brown, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points.

Moriarty smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Moriarty's victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3. As for Jemez Valley, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Moriarty wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 70-55 loss against Melrose on the 13th. As for Jemez Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 74-42 defeat against Ruidoso on the 13th.
