Las Animas has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Fowler Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Las Animas is ranked 67th, while Fowler is ranked 53rd).
Even though Las Animas has not done well against South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Las Animas walked away with a 31-24 win over South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett].
Emma Netherton continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on ten points and 16 rebounds. Netherton set a new season high mark in rebounds with 16. Another player making a difference was Jadann Eck, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Fowler struggled with assists on Saturday (Colorado Springs Christian had 15 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Fowler was dealt a 82-31 loss at the hands of Colorado Springs Christian. Fowler was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-20.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jaslyn Bates, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. The game was Bates' third in a row with at least ten points. Randi Maestas was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Las Animas pushed their record up to 3-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Fowler, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-1.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: Las Animas have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 31.8% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Fowler, though, as they've only made 34.7% of their threes per game this season. Given Las Animas' sizeable advantage in that area, Fowler will need to find a way to close that gap.
Las Animas took a serious blow against Fowler in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 48-21. Can Las Animas avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
