Softball Recap: City College Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

City College entered their tilt with Forest Park on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Foresters. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 22-10 victory back in March.

Imani Lewis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and four runs.

In other batting news, City College got a massive performance out of Brandy Ward, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Ward continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Marley Mitchell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

City College always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .735. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .562 or higher in four consecutive contests.

City College's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Forest Park, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Coincidentally, City College and Forest Park will both be playing Dunbar the next time they take the field. The Knights will host the Poets at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, while the Foresters will head out to face them on Monday.
