Basketball Game Preview: Wiggins Tigers vs. Yuma Outlaws

The Wiggins Tigers will take on the Yuma Outlaws at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Wiggins took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 47-28 victory over Brush. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Beetdiggers: they've now won three in a row.

Kennedy Kerr and Karsyn Kerr were among the main playmakers for Wiggins as the former shot 42% from the field to rack up 23 points in addition to five boards and three steals and the latter went 5-for-11 en route to 11 points and eight rebounds. Karsyn continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Haedynn Epple was another key player, putting up six points.

Wiggins smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Yuma was able to grind out a solid victory over Strasburg on Wednesday, taking the game 35-25.

Wiggins pushed their record up to 14-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.6 points on average over those games. As for Yuma, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-11.

Wiggins didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Yuma in their previous meeting back in February, but they still walked away with a 39-34 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wiggins since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
