Fort Chiswell extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping their season record up to 13-5 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Giles Spartans. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Blair Jackson was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over 12 innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Krista King, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run and one double. Another player making a difference was Lilly Goforth, who went 3-for-6 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Fort Chiswell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.
As for Giles, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-6. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Like Fort Chiswell, Giles also got a great game from a two-way player: Addie Lowry. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over 11.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. Lowry was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one double.
Lowry wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Ratcliffe, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Fort Chiswell and Giles should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Pioneers (ranked 109th) will meet Narrows (ranked 331st) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Giles will face off against Craig County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (155 vs. 317).
