The Richton Rebels will be playing at home against the Petal Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Richton will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Last Friday, Richton strolled past St. Stanislaus with points to spare, taking the game 56-37. Given Richton's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while St. Stanislaus is ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Richton can attribute much of their success to Dakota Amos, who scored 16 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals, and Matthew Shepard, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Amos' seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dave Woulard, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but Petal had to settle for a 50-47 defeat against South Jones last Tuesday.
Richton's victory bumped their season record to 7-0 while St. Stanislaus' loss dropped theirs to 3-3.
Richton was taken down by Petal 68-40 in their previous matchup back in November of 2015. Can Richton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
