Springfield hasn't had much luck against McDonald recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Tigers will be playing at home against the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Springfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Springfield nor Waterloo made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Tigers fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 4-3. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Gina Romeo was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, McDonald had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Tuesday. They didn't even let the Bluejays on the board, marking their second-straight 6-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Aubrey Evans's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Miley Titus was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Clair O'Leary, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
McDonald's win bumped their record up to 14-2. As for Springfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Springfield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like McDonald struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 1.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Springfield couldn't quite get it done against McDonald in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 as they fell 4-1. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
