Dalhart hasn't had much luck against River Road recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wolves will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Dalhart has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Friday just wasn't the day for Dalhart's offense. They lost 14-0 to Childress on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Wolves' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Dalhart saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Peavy, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, River Road came tearing into Friday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 21-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 11 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Ava Sharp was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Ashlynn Ferris was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Carol Koval, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
River Road always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .767. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
River Road's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Dalhart, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9-1.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dalhart has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like River Road struggles in that department as they've averaged .505. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dalhart might still be hurting after the 18-3 loss they got from River Road in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Wolves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
