The Red Mesa Redskins won the last time they faced the Williams Vikings, and things went their way on Saturday too. Red Mesa walked away with a 57-48 win over the Vikings. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, as Red Mesa did.
It was another big night for Shyla Pipkin, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. She also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Tianna Bradley, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Despite the loss, Williams still got an impressive performance from Kai Mortensen, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Mortensen hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Liliana Vazquez was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
Red Mesa is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-13 record this season. As for Williams, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 17-12.
Red Mesa does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Williams will head out on the road to face off against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Joseph City is on a six-game streak of home wins, the Vikings a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
