1A Four Rivers recap Oct. 9, 2012
Plymouth moved up to 101 from 127 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 1A Four Rivers. A 52-14 win over Riverside helped the Vikings improve their standing.
Manteo extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Northside, 65-0. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Riverside's dynamic duo of Matthew Wisniewski and Ryan Byrd proved tough for Plymouth to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wisniewski threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns and Byrd had 104 yards receiving. Donovan Brown helped Riverside's passing attack out by catching four balls for 44 yards.
Dj Beach made the biggest impact on defense this week as Asim Mcgill's team fell to Robert Cody's team. The 5-foot-8 junior forced one fumble.
Jazz Hanson was the most productive running back in the league this week. In two carries, he ran for 99 yards as Manteo fell to the Vikings. Teammate Hatcher Shiflet added to the ground attack by rushing for 92 yards.
Riverside's Wisniewski and Byrd have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 1A Four Rivers in both passing and receiving yards. Wisniewski has thrown for 1016 yards this season, while Byrd, a 5-foot-6 receiver, has 31 catches for 276 yards. Eddie Twyne's team's Roy Bryant leads the league in rushing yards with 684.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Plymouth takes on Camden County. As it stands, the Vikings are in second, while the Bruins are in third.
The Redskins led the league in scoring this week after putting up 65 points on Northside. Hanson in the win.
