Even though the South Aiken Thoroughbreds scored an imposing 60 points on Tuesday, the Aiken Fighting Green Hornets still came out on top. Aiken secured a 64-60 W over South Aiken. Given Aiken's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while South Aiken is ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Aiken's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kelton Walker, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Walker scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Terrence Smith, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.
Aiken's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-10. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.7 points per game. As for South Aiken, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-20.
Aiken will head out on the road to challenge North Augusta at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. North Augusta will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Aiken surely won't give up without a fight. South Aiken does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
