Basketball Recap: Levi Sawatzky Key Part of a Team Effort in Redhawks Win

Goshen won the last time they faced Elkhart Christian Academy and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Goshen RedHawks strolled past the Elkhart Christian Academy Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 52-35. Given the RedHawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Eagles are ranked 407th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Goshen's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Levi Sawatzky, who went 5 of 12 en route to 15 points and five steals. With that strong performance, Sawatzky is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Karter Marcum was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Goshen has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.4 points per game. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Goshen will host Warsaw at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Goshen has won three straight at home, while Warsaw won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, they will venture away from home to face off against Bremen at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bremen is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51 points per game this season.
