The Ludlow Lions will head out on the road to take on the Chicopee Comp Colts at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ludlow has three straight wins, Chicopee Comp has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Ludlow is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Chicopee 13-7 on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Kylie Roach made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Roach was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caitlyn Peczka, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Liberty Carlson also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Ludlow always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Chicopee Comp lost 13-5 to Southwick Regional on Tuesday.
Arianna Bird made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Wojcik, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Chicopee Comp's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Ludlow, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Chicopee Comp's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Ludlow has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Chicopee Comp, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Ludlow keep running through batters, or will the Colts buck the trend?
Ludlow took their victory against Chicopee Comp when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-7 score. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colts turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
