Northwest recap Oct. 16, 2012
Lima Central Catholic extended the longest winning streak in Northwest this week by beating Bluffton, 43-10. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Thunderbirds.
Columbus Grove moved up to 235 from 299 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bulldogs climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Paulding 57-18.
Ada's dynamic duo of Mason Acheson and Micah Roberson proved tough for Allen East to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Acheson threw for 362 yards and four touchdowns and Roberson had 123 yards receiving. Matt Wilcox helped Ada's passing attack out by catching four balls for 67 yards.
Joey Warnecke was the most productive running back in the league this week. In six carries, he ran for 129 yards as Columbus Grove topped the Mustangs. Dakota Vogt also contributed to the rushing game with 77 yards on the ground.
Ada's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Acheson has thrown for 2212 yards and 25 touchdowns this season, while Roberson has 35 catches for 617 yards. Kellen Decker leads the league in rushing with 1357 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Ada takes on Jefferson. Mike Fell's team is in second place, while the Wildcats are in third place.
Andy Schafer's team led the league in scoring this week after putting up 57 points on the Panthers. Collin Grothaus threw for 159 yards and three touchdowns and ran for eight yards in the win.
