The South Florence Bruins will square off against the Austintown-Fitch Falcons at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
South Florence's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Tournament Opponent with a sharp 10-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Bruins, who have now won three matchups in a row.
The result came thanks to Payton Perry's shutout, as she gave up just seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Ava Black was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Riley Owens, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Austintown-Fitch made easy work of Lewisville on Monday and carried off a 9-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Falcons.
Tori Greathouse spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaliana Ray, who went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Toth, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
South Florence's record now sits at 18-6. As for Austintown-Fitch, their record is now 10-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Florence hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. However, it's not like Austintown-Fitch struggles in that department as they've averaged .473. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
