Tonopah Valley hasn't had much luck against Yuma Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Tonopah Valley managed to slip by Parker the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Phoenix came up short against the Broncs on Saturday, falling 25-9. The Phoenix just can't catch a break and have now endured five defeats in a row.
Ellie Procunier was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Shiloh Walker, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.
Meanwhile, Yuma Catholic entered their tilt with Valley Christian on Monday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They skirted past the Trojans 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Shamrocks have posted since March 19th.
Cherish Trujillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Faith Donley was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Autumn Moffatt, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Yuma Catholic's win bumped their record up to 20-4. As for Tonopah Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tonopah Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Yuma Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Tonopah Valley suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Yuma Catholic in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Phoenix avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
