Softball Recap: Key West Sets Scoring Season-High Against Mater Bay Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Key West). Everything went their way against the Mater Bay Academy Rays on Wednesday as they made off with a 20-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Conchs, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Brianna Brenner looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Key West got a massive performance out of Tavyn Gage, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-6. The dominant performance also gave Gage a new career-high in RBI (three). Alexa Condella also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Key West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mater Bay Academy only posted a batting average of .154.

Key West has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Mater Bay Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Key West will take on American at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Mater Bay Academy, they will face off against Palmer Trinity at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Rays' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
