Erie is 9-1 against Cherryvale since February of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Erie Red Devils are taking a road trip to take on the Cherryvale Chargers at 7:30 p.m. Erie is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
Erie is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Humboldt on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Erie took a blow against Humboldt, falling 54-27. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Cubs are ranked 74th).

Erie's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Reid Duff, who posted 12 points along with seven boards and three blocks, and Michael Richenburg, who scored five points and four steals. That's the most steals Richenburg has posted since back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, Cherryvale came into Friday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They took their match on Friday with ease, bagging a 57-17 win over Bluestem. That 40 point margin sets a new team best for the Chargers this season.
Erie better keep an eye on Landon Fox. He was instrumental in Cherryvale's win, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Fox's morning made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Bricen Raida, who went 5 for 8 en route to 14 points.
Cherryvale's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-10. As for Erie, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Erie has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Cherryvale struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything went Erie's way against Cherryvale when the teams last played back in January, as Erie made off with a 62-36 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Fox, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Erie still be able to contain Fox? There's only one way to find out.
