Baseball Recap: Walsingham Academy Has No Trouble Against Austintown-Fitch

While Walsingham Academy put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Austintown-Fitch. The Trojans put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Matthew Swanson made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Walsingham Academy let Drew Weddington and Andrew Cole run wild. Weddington got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI, while Cole went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. What's more, Weddington posted two hits, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Hamilton Adams, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Walsingham Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Walsingham Academy has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Austintown-Fitch, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-9.

Walsingham Academy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 12-5 win against Catholic on the 29th. As for Austintown-Fitch, they have also already played their next contest, a 6-1 defeat against Proctor on the 25th.
