Basketball Game Preview: Bandys Trojans vs. Newton-Conover Red Devils

The Bandys Trojans will square off against the Newton-Conover Red Devils at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Bandys knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Newton-Conover likes a good challenge.

Bandys will bounce into Friday's match after beating Maiden, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Bandys slipped by Maiden 73-72 on Tuesday.

Bandys can attribute much of their success to Evan Robinson, who went 9 for 15 en route to 25 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals, and Landon Vaughan, who went 9 of 17 on his way to 22 points along with seven boards and five blocks. Vaughan's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Easton Ledford, who posted ten points along with six assists and five boards.

Bandys smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Newton-Conover beat West Lincoln 60-54 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Red Devils.

Newton-Conover pushed their record up to 12-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Bandys, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

Bandys strolled past Newton-Conover in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 70-54. Does Bandys have another victory up their sleeve, or will Newton-Conover turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
