Winfield-Mt. Union stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 64-8 victory over Belle Plaine. Given Winfield-Mt. Union's advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa football rankings (they are ranked second, while Belle Plaine is ranked 39th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cam Buffington had a dynamite game for Winfield-Mt. Union, rushing for 192 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also picking up 41 receiving yards. Buffington was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards. Cole Milks was another key contributor, gaining 115 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Moravia beat Lone Tree 45-33 last Friday.
Winfield-Mt. Union's victory was their ninth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 44.44 points. As for Moravia, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Winfield-Mt. Union strolled past Moravia when the teams last played back in August of 2022 by a score of 64-50. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Moravia's Riley Hawkins, who picked up 186 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
