The Niles West Wolves will head out on the road to take on the Amundsen Vikings at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
The home team had won the previous seven meetings between Niles West and Niles North, and Niles North kept the tradition alive. The Wolves fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, the Wolves couldn't push the score so high this time.
Niles West saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Hester, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Amundsen waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Lions by a score of 8-3.
Cassidy Carter made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Carter was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Lydia Hulliberger and Ashley Ellevog did most of the damage at the plate: Hulliberger got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Ellevog went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Hulliberger is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Skylar Shelist was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Niles West's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-9. As for Amundsen, their record now sits at 12-5.
Niles West couldn't quite finish off Amundsen when the teams last played back in May of 2025 and fell 5-3. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
