The Southridge Spartans put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Miami Christian with points to spare, taking the game 61-42. Given Southridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Miami Christian is ranked 226th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shanaii Gamble was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Naya Hardisson, who scored 12 points along with seven assists.
Miami Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Marcela Ulloa, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Maria De Gracia was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds.
Southridge's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.1 points per game. As for Miami Christian, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southridge has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Miami at 5:00 p.m. on December 8th. Miami Christian will take on Mater Lakes Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
