The Covington Buccs came tearing into Thursday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Milton-Union 46-30. For Covington, this counts as revenge for the 43-39 defeat Milton-Union walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
Milton-Union's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jenna Brumbaugh, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. Brumbaugh scored a full 46.7% of Milton-Union's points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Shannon Brumbaugh was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Covington pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Milton-Union, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Covington will finish 2023 at home by hosting Arcanum at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Arcanum focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Monday. Milton-Union will finish 2023 at home by hosting Newton Local at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
