The Hopewell Blue Devils put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Lakeland 63-29 at home. Fans of Hopewell have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
It was another big night for Erin Edmonds, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Hopewell's points. Another player making a difference was April Winfield, who scored 22 points along with four steals.
Hopewell pushed their record up to 9-0 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 45 points. As for Lakeland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.
Hopewell will be playing at home against Hermitage at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Hermitage will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while Hopewell is ranked 36th). Lakeland's road trip will continue as they head out to face Deep Creek at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th.
