Lakeland is 0-10 against Mid Valley since April of 2019 but things could change on Saturday. The Chiefs will take on the Spartans at 2:00 p.m. Lakeland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Dunmore hit Lakeland with a four-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Chiefs came up short against the Bucks, falling 10-2. The Chiefs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lakeland saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Cunningham, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Mid Valley came tearing into Wednesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 15-0 shutout. The Spartans' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four contests.
Ava Hazelton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Elise Larson was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Mackenzie Adolfson was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Mid Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.
Lakeland's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Mid Valley, their record is now 15-1-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Lakeland hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Mid Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Lakeland might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Mid Valley when the teams last played back in April. Can the Chiefs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
