The South Johnston Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to Middle Creek. While losing is never fun, South Johnston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 562nd, while Middle Creek is ranked 246th).
Middle Creek was led to victory by Yasir Hall and Greyson Land. Hall scored 15 points along with six rebounds, while Land scored 18 points along with four steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Hall has scored at least 25% of Middle Creek's points. Obataobie Okafor was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals.
South Johnston's defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-6. As for Middle Creek, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Johnston will take on Smithfield-Selma at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Middle Creek, they will look to defend their home court on January 5, 2024 against Holly Springs at 7:00 p.m.
