New Prairie is 1-9 against South Bend St. Joseph since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The New Prairie Cougars will head out on the road to take on the South Bend St. Joseph Indians at 6:30 p.m. New Prairie is hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses.
Last Wednesday, New Prairie was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 43-38 to Bremen.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Brody Wiginton, who scored nine points. Trenton Klute was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, South Bend St. Joseph can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Thursday. They blew past Elkhart, posting a 77-50 victory on the road. Given South Bend St. Joseph's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Elkhart is ranked 365th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New Prairie has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season. As for South Bend St. Joseph, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-7.
New Prairie suffered a grim 50-27 defeat to South Bend St. Joseph in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Can New Prairie avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
