The Whiteland Warriors won the last time they faced the Southport Cardinals, and things went their way on Thursday too. Whiteland breezed by Southport on the road to the tune of 60-25. Given Whiteland's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Southport is ranked 338th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Whiteland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carly Vondielingen, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. The contest was Vondielingen's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Dyer, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Despite the loss, Southport still got an impressive performance from Lorelei bennett, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Southport struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Whiteland racked up 11 assists.
The win got Whiteland back to even at 9-9. As for Southport, their loss dropped their record down to 2-16.
Whiteland will head out on the road to face off against Shelbyville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southport, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Beech Grove at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th.
