Grayslake North is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Wauconda.
Grace Hoker was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jane Pritchard was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Kendall Joy was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs.
Elgin hit Round Lake with a five-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers fell 7-3 to the Maroons. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like Grayslake North, Round Lake also got a great game from a two-way player: Piper Berry. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Berry has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two doubles, and two RBI.
Berry wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Arianna Cabral, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Round Lake's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Grayslake North has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for Round Lake, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Grayslake North's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Grayslake North took their victory against Round Lake in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 20-0 score. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
