Baseball Recap: Brick Township Wins Going Away Against New Egypt

While Brick Township put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for New Egypt. The Green Dragons put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 18-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Green Dragons, who have now won six games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Peyton Horning made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sean Savannah and Gavin Maffei did most of the damage at the plate: Savannah went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Maffei went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Maffei a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brannon McBride, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Brick Township always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Egypt only posted an OBP of .333.

The win made it two in a row for Brick Township and bumps their season record up to 11-5-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 4-8-1 New Egypt and 7-8 Barnegat. As for New Egypt, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8-1 record this season.

Brick Township will challenge Barnegat at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for New Egypt, they will take on Cinnaminson at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors are facing the Pirates at the right time seeing as the Pirates are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
