Even though the Richfield Spartans have not done well against the Simley Spartans recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Richfield claimed a resounding 63-28 win over Simley at home. With Richfield ahead 39-13 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Leading Richfield to victory were Aniiya Johnson and Desirai Chappell. Johnson dropped a double-double on 16 points and 10 steals, while Chappell scored 24 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Chappell has scored at least 25% of Richfield's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zarihana Rennie, who scored 8 points along with 11 rebounds and 5 steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Richfield and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Simley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Richfield will take on Hutchinson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Simley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Apple Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
