After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Charles, the Vestaburg Wolverines were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 45-33 win over Ashley. That's another feather in the cap for Vestaburg, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Vestaburg found their leader in underclassman Lily Johnston, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Johnston has scored at least a third of Vestaburg's points. Megan Beetley was another key contributor, scoring four points along with four steals.
Despite the loss, Ashley saw an underclassman step up: Karissa Brady dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Brady has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.
Even though they lost, Ashley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vestaburg only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Vestaburg's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Ashley, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vestaburg will stay at home for another game and welcome Calvary Baptist Academy at 4:30 p.m. on February 1st. Hopefully Vestaburg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Tuesday. As for Ashley, they will be playing at home against Breckenridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Breckenridge will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Ashley surely won't give up without a fight.
