Downriver recap Oct. 23, 2012
Woodhaven extended the longest winning streak in Downriver this week by beating Carlson, 51-29. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Trenton was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. The Trojans vanquished Lincoln Park 23-0 earlier in the week.
The Marauders' dynamic duo of Bailey Molnar and Alex Rahming proved tough for Woodhaven to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Molnar threw for 110 yards and one touchdown and Rahming had 93 yards receiving. Jared Henson helped Carlson's passing attack out by catching one ball for 17 yards.
Garrett Weirich was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 194 yards as Keith Christnagel's team lost to Keith Christnagel's team. Teammate Mickey Sutton added to the ground attack by rushing for 151 yards.
Roosevelt's Kevin Matejko and Devan Stewart have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Downriver in both passing and receiving yards. Matejko has thrown for 1361 yards this season, while Stewart, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 28 catches for 642 yards. The Warriors' Nick Maher leads the league in rushing yards with 1605.
In 104 carries Marcus Carter has accumulated 968 yard this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Bears take on Woodhaven. Roosevelt is currently in third, while the Warriors are in first.
Ron Adams' team took down Anderson 59-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Aaron Robinson ran for 118 yards in the win.
