The Laker Lakers are taking a road trip to face off against the Shepherd Bluejays at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Glenn hit Laker with a four-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lakers took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bobcats.
Laker saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lydia Smith 2028, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Shepherd entered their tilt with Midland on Wednesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They came out on top against the Chemics by a score of 6-3.
Elise McDonald made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Lexi Smith was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Lillian Loonsfoot was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Laker has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-13 record this season. As for Shepherd, their record is now 21-10-1.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Laker hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Shepherd struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Laker came up short against Shepherd in their previous matchup back in April of 2018, falling 7-2. Can the Lakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
