The Pomona Panthers will take on the Conifer Lobos at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Pomona will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Pomona proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by seven) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Green Mountain, sneaking past 6-4.
Tyler Dempsy tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Pomona is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-4 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tavin Caldwell, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Pomona: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Riley Biesk, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
While Conifer didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over Littleton on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Lobos in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won nine in a row.
Mckade Tracy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Nick Giefer was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Conifer hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.
The victory got Pomona back to even at 5-5. As for Conifer, their win bumped their record up to 6-3-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pomona has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Conifer struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Pomona was able to grind out a solid victory over Conifer in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, winning 5-2. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lobos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
