Hunter House made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He is becoming a predictor of Wyalusing Valley's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 2-14 when he doesn't). House was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Kenny Mapes and Isaac Shaffer did most of the damage at the plate: Mapes went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base, while Shaffer went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Shaffer has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Logan Norton, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Mifflinburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 8-5 to Midd-West.
Chad Martin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those stolen bases were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Bolick, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Mifflinburg's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Wyalusing Valley, their record now sits at 5-14.
Wyalusing Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Mifflinburg when the teams last played back in May of 2023, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
