After flying high against the Evans Knights last Saturday, the South Effingham Mustangs came back down to earth. South Effingham fell 54-45 to Glynn Academy on Tuesday. South Effingham was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Glynn Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the defeat, South Effingham saw an underclassman step up: Hayden Johanson scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Johanson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Justine Nevels was another key contributor, scoring five points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Leading Glynn Academy to victory were Kyra Page and Martin Davis. Page scored 13 points along with five steals, while Davis dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Davis hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Deoni Hacker, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
South Effingham has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Glynn Academy, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Effingham will take on Effingham County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Effingham County is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Glynn Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Evans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Evans will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 467th, while Glynn Academy is ranked 159th).
