The Iowa Colony Pioneers waltzed into their matchup on Friday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They came out on top against Sweeny by a score of 49-38. That's another feather in the cap for Iowa Colony, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Iowa Colony found their leader in underclassman Eryn Roberts, who scored 16 points along with two steals. Roberts is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Janyha Johnson, who scored six points along with six steals.
Despite the loss, Sweeny still got an impressive performance from Kay'ana Britton, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Britton has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayley Woods, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Sweeny struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Iowa Colony racked up ten assists.
Iowa Colony is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. As for Sweeny, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-9.
Iowa Colony will take on Bay City at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bay City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 818th, while Iowa Colony is ranked 360th). As for Sweeny, they will head out on the road to take on Columbia at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Columbia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 37 last Tuesday.
