The Mission Bay Buccaneers came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 47-37 victory over La Jolla. Given Mission Bay's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while La Jolla is ranked 405th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, La Jolla still got an impressive performance from Elijah Vaz, who scored 15 points. The matchup was Vaz's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Diehl, who scored three points along with five rebounds.
Mission Bay has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for La Jolla, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Mission Bay has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Helix at 7:30 p.m. on December 13th. La Jolla won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Army-Navy at 3:00 p.m. on December 9th.
