Grayslake Central hasn't had much luck against Dundee-Crown recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Rams will face off against the Chargers at 10:00 a.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Saturday.
Grayslake Central barely beat Wauconda the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rams blew past the Bulldogs 9-2 on Friday. The Rams have beaten the Bulldogs the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.
Ann Wolff made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Wolff was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Danielle Eckenstahler, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Zalei Gryb, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Grayslake Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 9-4 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Dundee-Crown not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 3rd (when they won 14-4). They put the hurt on Wauconda with a sharp 7-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chargers.
Reese Westland tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jordyn Jeffs was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Hsu, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Dundee-Crown's victory bumped their record up to 10-20. As for Grayslake Central, their win bumped their record up to 13-14.
Dundee-Crown's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Grayslake Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Dundee-Crown, though, as they've been averaging 11.1 hits. Given Grayslake Central's sizable advantage in that area, the Chargers will need to find a way to close that gap.
