Lone Oak is 0-7 against Chisum since April of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The Buffaloes will head out to square off against the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Lone Oak has given up an average of 9.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Lone Oak came up short against Winnsboro last Friday, falling 11-1.
Lone Oak saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Saint Slemmons, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Wesley Hudson also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Chisum never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on Commerce with a sharp 14-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won seven in a row.
Drake Howard and Thomas Thiessen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Howard pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Thiessen didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Chisum is undefeated when Howard allows one or fewer hits, but 10-11 otherwise. At bat, Howard went 2-for-4 with one run and one double, while Thiessen went 3-for-5 with four RBI. Those three hits gave Thiessen a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaidyn Gallaghan, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Chisum: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 10-11 otherwise. Zeke Baird was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Chisum hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Chisum's record now sits at 13-11. As for Lone Oak, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.
Lone Oak might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Chisum when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Buffaloes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
