Even though the Springport Spartans have not done well against the Homer Trojans recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The stars were shining brightly for Springport in a 55-40 win over Homer. That looming 55-40 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Springport yet this season.
Springport found their leader in underclassman Tucker Wiginton, who scored 16 points along with three steals. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. Gibson Overweg was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Springport's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Homer, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
After both having extra time off, Springport and Maple Valley will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Maple Valley and Springport are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads. Homer will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Manchester at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Manchester is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
